ND Rally: PM Lee expected to address housing, education and healthcare ... - Channel News Asia

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will address the nation during his National Day Rally on Sunday evening.

Mr Lee is expected to speak about concerns raised by the people on housing, education and healthcare during his wide-ranging speech in Malay, Mandarin and English.

This year's National Day Rally will take place at a new venue, the ITE College Central at Ang Mo Kio.

A key highlight of Mr Lee's speech will be the government's response to the various recommendations by some 47,000 participants of Our Singapore Conversation (OSC), which was launched during last year's National Day Rally.

In his Facebook page, Mr Lee has said that he will be responding to the OSC's views in the rally on Sunday.

Three key subjects - housing, healthcare and education - generated much discussions.

Mr Heng Swee Keat, chairman of Our Singapore Conversation, has hinted that changes to the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) are expected as part of the government's response to concerns raised.

In his televised National Day message, Mr Lee had talked about how Singapore can be a home where citizens have opportunities to succeed and live fulfilling lives, and where stronger safety nets give citizens more peace of mind.

He noted that the Our Singapore Conversation expressed these aspirations and he has called on Singaporeans to work to realise them.

The National Day Rally speech will be televised "live" over the various channels from 6.45pm on Sunday.
